Raymond studied at Wolverhampton Polytechnic gaining professional qualifications in training and development. He worked in industry for a number of years as a training specialist, later transfering these skills to his work as an art tutor and demonstrator. He is well known in the West Midlands by many adult students who have attended his painting workshops
His painting has spanned forty years. As well as landscape he specialises in canal scene paintings and was featured on television in the ITV Water
World series, painting on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal.

He has written and self published two books of his canal paintings and sketches.

 In describing his style as 'simple' he explains that he believes the beauty of watercolour, and oils and acrylics to some extent, lies in the simple and spontaneous application of colour.
During his painting career he has been influenced by the paintings of Edward Seago and proudly follows what he calls the great 'English landscape painting tradition'.

 One of the wonderful artists who had a infuence on Raymond's painting was Percy Hipkiss. Raymond's pastel portrait of Percy is shown left.

Raymond writes occasional articles for Leisure Painter magazine.

He regularly exhibits at West Midlands exhibitions and has held one and two man exhibitions in many locations.

His paintings can be found in private and public collections in this country and abroad.

Raymond has now retired, through ill health, as a tutor and demonstrator and devotes his time to painting, donating the net proceeds from his work to charity.
